Curriculum

The Foundational Years Program

In the foundational stage we have a bilingual environment that provides young children with a sense of safety and security to enjoy their first experience of school. The friendly ecosystem encourages them to express their thoughts and feelings fearlessly as they explore and discover the world around them.

Moving away from the traditional subject based curriculum, the early years program under the leadership and expertise of Dr Venita Kaul, Prof Emeritus, Director, CECED, Ambedkar University Delhi & former Education Specialist, World Bank, has been designed to lay the foundation for all future learning. As proposed in the NEP 2020, the focus is on advancing their language skills, cognitive, socio-emotional, and psychomotor domains.

Our pedagogy ensures that children are provided with opportunities to grow and learn in a manner that is best suited to their individual needs. Play is inter-woven with joyful moments that enthuse children with the desire to explore and discover. Hands-on Montessori activities form an integral part of the self-learning process. In blended classrooms technology does not fail to provide infinite possibilities to involve the young digital natives.

The comprehensive Peace Education Program instils good habits, and a sound value system is inculcated at an early age. The importance of gender equality and compassion teaches them not only to respect people, but also the environment around them.

Traditional report cards have been replaced by anecdotal records which along with the student’s portfolio provide parents with an individualized detailed picture of their child’s growth and development.

Primary School

The transition to the Primary School is seamless and smooth. The curriculum is designed to draw from their experiences and meet the cognitive, and socio-emotional needs of the child. The teachers foster an atmosphere that is personalized, child centred, and favours differentiated teaching for an inclusive classroom.

The enquiry-based pedagogy extends beyond textbooks and inculcates a spirit of investigation that sets children on the path to self-learning. The essential elements of this design are Knowledge, Skills and Action. Students collaborate to work on Interdisciplinary Projects that highlight sustainable development and conservation of our environment.

The library offers a haven for children and the world of books captivates them, as   their imagination takes wings. Students have the independence to choose books from a wealth of books and discover genres that they enjoy.

The Discovery Room and Math Lab provide an arena for playful application of concepts learnt and stimulate critical and innovative thinking for problem solving.

A plethora of activities including author meets, book discussions, debate and literary clubs are all integrated in the school timetable and ensure that each child gets an opportunity to develop her/his hobbies, and interest.

The Peace Education classes inculcate compassion for others, taking responsibility of their actions. Resolving conflicts is an important component of the program.  Gender equality, discernment, and acceptance of diversity are explored together in the classroom and collectively during the Life Skills Assemblies, that are student led conducted every week.

The Middle School

As the students transit from childhood to adolescence, Middle School offers a caring, safe, and supportive environment which encourages the young teenager to tackle challenges in a culture of nurtured risk-taking. They are pushed beyond their comfort zones to build on their resilience, character, and robust problem-solving skills.

The rigorous academic curriculum in the Middle School focuses on encouraging students to become independent learners and deepen their knowledge and skills in the 5 core subjects: English, Math, Science, Social Sciences and Hindi. In addition, children are introduced to a foreign language and have the choice of deciding on any one of the 6 languages taught at school.

Interdisciplinary projects encourage connections to be drawn between all subject areas and learning is a conscious effort that helps them relate to the world they live in. The Civics program introduces them to active citizenship. Discourse and deliberations help them to develop the skills of critical thinking, communication and dispositions which enable one to solve problems logically.

Self-care and adolescent health education are a part of the curriculum and delivered in collaboration with the USA based scientist and health expert, Dr Rahul Mehra –Executive Chairman – Tarang Health Alliance. The program involves monthly parent engagement sessions on issues relating to nutrition, physical activity, and mental health.

Club activities within the school timetable provide space to explore students’ interest in visual and performing arts, environment study, digital information technology, robotics, elocution, and literary activities. A healthy balance exists that infuses the school day with moments of euphoric buoyancy!

Young minds mingle in a campus that embraces diversity of perspectives, identity, a spirit of service that enables strengthening of linkages through communication and collaborative assignments.

Leadership

The House System: The House activities are an integral part of the school curriculum. The entire school, including the staff members are divided into Six Houses. As in nature, the colours of the rainbow, unique and beautiful blend into each other, contributing towards making it a unified whole. The Houses represent unity in diversity.

Student Council: We have a democratically elected three tier Prefectorial Leadership team comprising of Junior Prefectorial team, Middle School Prefectorial team and Senior Prefectorial team. The elected student council undergoes a well structured and planned training program to develop their leadership skills and empower them to execute their duties with confidence and responsibility.

STASS - Students Assembly: Student led Assemblies are conducted independently by the student council. It provides the council with an opportunity to hone their leadership skills as the student body voices their opinions fearlessly and debate about burning contemporary issues.

Life Skills Program: The integrated life skills program at school is designed to explore, understand and find solutions on how to deal with adolescent issues including vandalism, graffiti, parental pressure, peer pressure, substance abuse and others.   As a consequence we have been able to instill equality at the grass root level and students are encouraged to agree to disagree. The school works closely with Wiscomp, the Foundation for Universal Responsibility an initiative of his Holiness the Dalai Lama, to engage and empower a new generation of women and men with expertise and skills in the processes of peace building through conflict resolution. The RTI society at school has taken on issues with the MCD of getting  garbage and malba dumps outside the school cleared and regularized by the MCD.

BSF – Youth Fiesta: The three day BSF youth fiesta is a cultural extravaganza that students look forward to each year. Developed entirely by the student body, workshops in theatre, dance and script writing encourage students to explore their creativity. Students write lyrics, compose music, write scripts and choreograph dances for their performances.

Green Crusaders: Environmental consciousness is cultivated from the early years and is an ongoing campaign. As a result of this, the school is a 'no poly bag zone'. Anti cracker campaigns, water harvesting, paper recycling and converting bio degradable waste to manure are regular activities carried out by students at school.
